Emergency Exit Row Seating, or any row directly forward or aft of an emergency exit, for the purpose of safety during an evacuation is restricted to able-bodied passengers over the age of 16 years.
For the purposes of clarity, and in accordance with the requirements of the South African Civil Aviation Regulations, the following persons may not occupy an emergency exit row seat:
- reduced mobility and special needs passengers;
- pregnant passengers;
- young persons under the age of 16;
- adults travelling with infants; and
- any passenger, based on the cabin crew’s sole discretion and evaluation, not deemed to comply with the definition of an able-bodied passenger.
